Is smiling contagious?

According to science, neurons in the brain have a synchronizing feature that keeps you in sync with who are you speaking to. If they smile, you’ll smile!

Smiling makes you look prettier.
Studies have proven that 70% of people find smiling faces to be better-looking than faces with makeup.

Do I have to brush my retainer?

You would never consider going days without brushing your teeth. However, many retainer wearers go for long periods without cleaning these devices.

The same bacteria that build up on teeth can grow on a retainer. As a result, putting an unclean retainer in your mouth is like applying a bacteria and plaque-laden solution to the teeth and gums.

How to clean your retainer?

When brushing teeth, people should brush their retainer as well.

It is best to use a soft-bristled toothbrush and non-whitening toothpaste. Afterwards, remove the retainer and rinse it thoroughly. People should brush their teeth again after removing the retainer to clean any areas covered by it.

orthodontic treatment with baby teeth

You can start orthodontic treatment while you still have some baby teeth.

Orthodontics can help correct your child’s bite before their adult teeth come in. The recommended age to visit an orthodontist is the age of seven. It is the ideal age for several reasons.

First, it is beneficial to the orthodontist to see how the smile is shaping up with the mix of baby and permanent teeth.

Second, Bachmann Orthodontics can monitor the eruption pattern of permanent teeth, jaw growth and development, and spot any issues that might become more serious as the permanent teeth begin to erupt.

In some cases, if we wait until all the baby teeth have fallen out, that may be too late to create an ideal smile most effectively. But on the other hand, treating patients while still having some baby teeth can create a perfect environment into which the permanent teeth can erupt. And often, this means later treatment is more effective and efficient.

The younger your child is, the more straightforward orthodontic treatment can be. The most important reason is that both the upper and lower jaws are still growing. This is giving us the chance to guide their development to ensure we can reduce crowding and help the permanent teeth erupt correctly.

Free monitoring program

We have implemented a free, regular oral development monitoring program for your child to ensure we begin their treatment at the best time possible. In addition, we have many years of experience & training in assessing a child’s pace of oral development. Therefore, it is usually immediately evident to us what level of treatment will be required.

When we assess a child or young adult, we always consider what their teeth are likely to do between the time we first see them and when their treatment is expected to begin. As a result, we can more accurately estimate the best age for braces in their specific case. In addition, we constantly tailor our orthodontic treatment programs to each and their needs.

What can we do to make you smile?

Make an appointment today and find out what will be the best treatment plan for your child to become a perfect Bachmannsmile.

International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day (IWD) is celebrated annually on 8 March to commemorate women’s cultural, political, and socioeconomic achievements.

It is also a focal point in the women’s rights movement, bringing attention to issues such as: Gender Equality,Reproductive Rights, and Violence & Abuse Against Women.

Spurred on by the universal female suffrage movement that had begun in New Zealand, IWD originated from labour movements in North America and Europe during the early 20th century.

.

The theme for International Women’s Day, 8 March 2022 (IWD 2022), recognises the contribution of women and girls worldwide, who are leading the charge on climate change adaptation, mitigation, and response, building a more sustainable future for all.

Advancing gender equality in the context of the climate crisis and disaster risk reduction is one of the greatest global challenges of the 21st century.
The issues of climate change and sustainability have had and will continue to have severe and lasting impacts on our environment, economic and social development.

Women are increasingly being recognised as more vulnerable to climate change impacts than men. This is because they constitute the majority of the worlds poor and are more dependent on the natural resources that climate change threatens the most.

7 Steps to a Successful Orthodontic Treatment

Ensure a successful orthodontic treatment by following these instructions from your Auckland orthodontists Drs Lutz and Claudia Bachmann.

Clean your Teeth and Braces

Keeping your teeth clean when wearing braces is very important. We recommend using the following tools for cleaning:

  • Toothbrushes
  • Fluoride toothpaste
  • Fluoride rinse
  • Dental floss
  • Interproximal brush – Interproximal brushes are tiny disposable brushes that are small enough to slip under the archwire of your braces and help remove plaque and food particles.

Follow Instructions

Follow the instructions your Auckland orthodontist has given you on wearing the rubber bands, retainers or any other fixed or removable orthodontic appliances.

Schedule Regular Appointments

Your appointments are a part of the plan your orthodontist has designed to take you through the different stages of your orthodontic treatment. Make sure you attend each scheduled appointment as it’s an important part of your treatment.

Wear a Mouthguard

Protect not only your teeth but also your braces and orthodontic appliances by always wearing a mouthguard when playing a sport.

Avoid Foods that are Bad for Your Braces

Make sure to stay away from hard, sticky and crunchy foods while you are wearing braces. Slice raw vegetables and fruits into bite-sized pieces to eat.

Inform your Orthodontist About Loose or Broken Appliances

If your orthodontic appliance is loose or broken call and schedule an appointment with our Auckland orthodontic office as soon as possible. It’s best not to wait until your next appointment. Bring any broken pieces of the appliance with you.

Following these steps and visiting your Auckland orthodontist office regularly will result in a beautiful and healthy smile. Contact us today to schedule a consultation or visit our website for more information.

Why has chocolate hidden dangers?

Did you consume a lot of chocolate this Easter weekend?

Chocolate is a nice treat; however, be careful of hidden dangers.

  • Chocolate with fruit and nut: the nuts are too hard and may cause brackets to come off. The raisins are very sticky and will get stuck around your appliance.
  • If Chocolate contains caramel is very sticky and chewy and should be avoided.
  • Chocolate that contains nougat: Nougat gets stuck around your appliance.
  • Chocolate from the fridge is too hard to eat whilst wearing orthodontic appliances; ensure it is at room temperature before consuming.

However, we advise avoiding sugary foods while wearing braces. While wearing your braces, you will want to avoid foods that are extremely soft, chewy or sticky and that contain a large amount of sugar or starch. Foods that are safe and unsafe while you are wearing your braces.

  • Cake and pies
  • Energy drinks
  • Extremely soft bread
  • Fruit juices
  • Gum
  • Heavily processed foods
  • Ice cream
  • Fizzes
  • Sports drinks

And it is essential to brush your teeth 30 minutes after every meal.

This role will keep your teeth nice and healthy throughout orthodontic treatment.

There’s only one way to your perfect smile.

Since, 14th May 2020, is a ONE WAY entry and exit system to the building, 51 Corinthian Drive and also to our practice in place. The entry door will be on the roadside of the building, and the exit door will be on the car park side.

We are ready to re-open on 🙂 We will contact you all individually, to organise appointments. Do not call us, we will call or send an email to you. We can not see all the patients at the same time, so please be patient. We have an excellent system in place to know exactly when your last appointment was and what the next steps in your treatment plan will be. We will spread out our time-table and opening days from Monday to Friday at 7.45am – 5.45pm to make sure that Bachmann Orthodontics will be a safe environment for our patients and staff at all times. Additional security measures will be in place to minimise the risk by preventing the spread of disease. Physical distancing is an ideal precaution to prevent the spread of disease, and we will follow government advice for dental health. Everything is ready to move to Level 2. We ask that the patient waits at the door at the time of their appointment, where they will be asked a few assessment questions before entering.

It’s an advantage that we designed a huge state-of-the-art practice around the needs of our patients in Albany, North Shore. We are equipped with the newest Orthodontist technologies to create a beautiful Bachmannsmile.

Social distancing is maintained at all times. Just follow the safety lines on the floor. You won’t be coming in contact with anyone else, and everything runs in a roundabout like a clock. Of course, with the highest hygienic standards that you are used to from us.

What can we do to make you smile?

Don’t gamble; getting the best smile is your choice.

Why it pays to choose a specialist orthodontist.
.
Specialist orthodontists have the knowledge, training and experience to advise on the full range of orthodontic treatment options.
.
An orthodontist is a registered dental specialist who has undertaken an additional three years of full-time postgraduate university study specialising in orthodontics.
.
An orthodontist focusses exclusively on straightening teeth, improving bite patterns and creating great smiles. Early treatment by a specialist can reduce or eliminate the need for more extensive treatment later in life.
.
A specialist orthodontist is well-equipped to diagnose what is the best treatment for your case.

Age is not a barrier to receiving corrective orthodontic treatment as healthy teeth maintain their ability to move within the jaw bone throughout a person’s life. An increasing number of adults are seeking specialist orthodontic treatment to enhance their smile, correct a bite problem and improve their self-esteem.
.
Be confident that you are in the care of a specialist by looking for the NZAO logo
All members of the New Zealand Association of Orthodontists (NZAO) are well trained. As a requirement of their ongoing professional registration, they must keep up to date with the latest trends and improvements in orthodontics.
.
You don’t need a referral to see a specialist orthodontist – call your local NZAO member like Bachmann Orthodontics and make an appointment. 09448 1128
You don’t have to gamble to get the smile you deserve.

Are we running out of masks?

Facemasks are strictly limited at the moment, and it isn’t straightforward to get the number of masks we are usually using. However, we are prepared and have always enough in stock.

If you are wearing a mask, please keep in mind the following.

  • If you are healthy, you only need to wear a mask if you are taking care of a person with suspected 2019-nCoV infection.
  • Wear a mask if you are coughing or sneezing.
  • Masks are effective only when used in combination with frequent hand-cleaning with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water.
  • If you wear a mask, then you must know how to use it and dispose of it properly.

What can we do to make you smile

We can detect smiles from far away.

Humans can detect smiles from more than 300 feet away, which developed out of a need to be able to distinguish friend from foe.

Keep your distance and smile.
The WHO World Health Organisation advises keeping a distance of at least two meters distance between yourself and anyone who is coughing or sneezing.
Wash your hands with soap and water or using alcohol-based hand rub kills viruses that may be on your hands.
.
Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth.
.
Practice respiratory hygiene.
Make sure you, and the people around you, follow good respiratory hygiene. This means covering your mouth and nose with your bent elbow or tissue when you cough or sneeze. Then dispose of the used tissue immediately.
.
If you have fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical care early.
Stay home if you feel unwell. Follow the directions of your local health authority.
.
We want to see our patient healthy.

What can we do to make you smile?

..Mona Lisa smile

What is the meaning of Mona Lisa’s smile?

The word “giocondo” is not only a family name but also an Italian word meaning “jovial” or “self-amused.” As it happens, enigmatic facial expressions – especially smiles – are something of a Da Vinci trademark. Yet this particular smile has sparked hot debate for nearly five hundred years.

The magic of the Mona Lisa’s smile is that it seems to react to our gaze. What is she thinking? She smiles back, mysteriously. Look again. Her smile seems to flicker. We glance away, and the enigmatic smile lingers in our minds, as it does in the collective mind of humanity. In no other painting are motion and emotion, the paired touchstones of Leonardo’s art, so intertwined.

The mystery has finally been solved after 500 years.

It is one of the most-discussed works of art ever, partly thanks to the subject’s ambiguous look.

According to a recent study by the University of Freiburg, though, the answer to whether she is “sad” or “happy” is simple: her expression is unequivocally “happy”.

Twelve participants were shown nine black and white photos of the Mona Lisa, eight of which had been digitally manipulated at the mouth; four made the model look happier, the other four sadder.

After shuffling the photos and showing them to each participant 30 times, the team found that the original photo was thought to be “happy” 97 per cent of the time.

What can we do to make you smile?

Maybe a magic Bachmannsmile.

What can we do to make you smile?

You don’t need a Smile-Brush for your daily routine.

1. Brush Your Teeth
You have been told to brush your teeth, twice a day every day since you were a kid and for a good reason. Brush your teeth for 3 minutes after every meal to ensure excellent oral health.

2. Floss Everyday
It is impossible to reach the tight spaces between your teeth and under the gumline with a toothbrush. That’s why Albany orthodontists, Dr Lutz and Claudia Bachmann, place an emphasis on the importance of flossing every day. They also advise that the best time to floss your teeth is before bedtime.

3. Avoid Sugary Drinks and Lollies
Sugar processed by oral bacteria produce acids which lead to tooth decay. Our orthodontic specialists at Bachmann Orthodontics suggest avoiding sugary drinks, candies and lollies to make sure you don’t cause painful cavities and tooth decay.

4. Avoid Bad Oral Health Habits
To ensure that your smile remains beautiful you must avoid all bad oral health habits such as smoking, tongue piercing and excessive consumption of alcohol.

5. See Your Dentist Regularly
Take time out to see your dentist at least twice a year to maintain your oral health.
