Difference between Orthodontists and Dentists

An orthodontist specialises in straightening teeth, making them bite together correctly and creating a great smile. While some dentists provide orthodontic treatment, unlike the team at Bachmann Orthodontics, they are not specialists and do not have the same level of training as a qualified orthodontist.

If you or your child needs treatment, look for the logo of the New Zealand Association of Orthodontists (NZAO), this professional organisation (of which Bachmann Orthodontics are a member) are committed to ensuring you receive specialist orthodontic care. The NZAO is the orthodontic authority in New Zealand – find out more at www.orthodontists.org.nz

It is important to note that for a dentist to become an orthodontist, they must complete an additional two to three years of full-time, specialised university education. This means that only orthodontists have the knowledge and training to advise on the full range of orthodontic options and treatment.  Just like the team at Bachmann Orthodontics, they know what’s appropriate for you or your child as specialists, including when to start treatment.

“Only an orthodontist is an orthodontist. The specialist in straightening teeth and aligning your bite.”

An orthodontist, like the team at Bachmann Orthodontics, can provide benefits for you and your family that you will value for a lifetime.

Cost wise, dentists and orthodontists generally charge the same amount for orthodontic treatment. As a patient you get the added benefit of being treated by a specialist when you see a qualified orthodontist.
